Aloha Hana,
I am sure many of you are already aware, but for those of you who aren’t, I am the female resident who has tested positive for COVID-19. I left for a trip to Canada on March 10th and returned home early on the 20th. Since returning home to Maui I have had absolutely no contact with anyone except for my husband and my daughter who have both also been in quarantine for 2 weeks now, and will continue to quarantine as advised. We have taken all the recommended precautions. As a type 1 diabetic, I am a high risk patient and for this reason I am now quarantining at my daughter’s house in Wailuku so I can be close to the hospital in case my condition quickly worsens. As of now, I am stable. Honestly, the worst part of my experience with this disease has been the unrelenting guilt since learning of my results yesterday afternoon. I would never intend to keep this a “secret” from my community, but have needed a little time to cope with the news on my own. I would NEVER knowingly do anything to jeopardize the health of any of you. I understand your frustration and fears, but please know I have done everything in my power to prevent any further spread of the disease. Continue to stay safe and protect yourselves.
