Maui County Democrats will convene their Biennial Convention from 10 a.m. to noon May 22 via Zoom.
The convention will honor State Sen. J. Kalani English’s 25 years of public service. He retired May 1 as he continues to battle long-term effects of COVID19.
Messages from Hawaii’s congressional members as well as state elected officials will be presented to English. Convention delegates will have an opportunity to speak during an open mic session.
The only official business of the convention is the election of executive officers for the positions of chairperson, vice-chairpersons for Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Education, and IT. A new secretary and treasurer will also be elected.
Keynote speaker will be State Party Chairperson Tyler Dos Santos-Tam, who will provide an overview of Democratic Party activities through and beyond COVID-19.
State Rep. Troy Hashimoto will preside as convention chairperson and State Sen. Gil Keith-Agaran will serve as parliamentarian. Linda Puppolo and Rosie Davis are credentials committee co-chairwomen.
To run for county party chairperson, one must be a certified member in good standing of the Democratic Party of Hawaii for a minimum of one year.
