‘Ohana Lei & Flowers is a family owned and operated flower farm located in Hana Maui Hawaii. We grow, cut, clean and package our own flowers.
We are not a flower factory or floral giant. We do not buy bulk flowers, mark them up and ship them to you. We start every morning cutting, cleaning, arranging and packing our tropical flowers with the whole family helping if need be.
The Lono family has been involved in flowers, farming and Hawaiian traditions for more than ten generations. The “Aloha” we use in our flower shipments include a healing prayer if you are sending flowers to an ill relative or friend.

East Maui RLW Taskforce is dedicated to preventing rat lungworm disease through education for residents and visitors, and support for East Maui’s farmers and gardeners. As a program of Hawai’i Farmers Union United Hāna Chapter, we actively share education, tools and practices to identify and control the vectors that spread the disease, and safe food handling practices to protect consumers. In addition to taking these precautions in your own household, you can help fortify your community:
- Become a volunteer – We need educators and field support.
- Share the mana‘o – Talk about RLW in your ‘ohana, educate the keiki, and share with our visitors how to protect themselves during their vacation on Maui.
- Contact us to get a Vector Control Kit: Info@ratlungworm.info
To get in touch with a network devoted to supporting those who are affected by Rat Lungworm disease

Hale Pueo is located 1/4 mile from Hana town on a 3 acre homestead on the rural East side of Maui. We are blessed to be the custodians of this special part of the ‘last Hawaiian place’ since 1994, rich with cultural and spiritual significance.
The farm consists of an eclectic sampling of trees such as papaya, banana, cacao, coffee, inga, soursop, avocado, lychee, rambutan, jackfruit, surinam cherry, fig, star-apple, mango, mountain apple, durian, sapote, macadamia nut, starfruit, lemon, orange, lime, longon, mammoth loquat, ulu (breadfruit), noni and coconut. Our trees are nourished by the rain, rich volcanic soil and sunshine utilizing organic farming practices. Lilikoi (passion fruit), lemongrass, curry, pineapple and a smattering of herbs are also grown. A small nursery on the farm includes a variety of potted palms and other landscaping ornamentals as well as fruit tree starts for sale.
Free ranging chickens and ducks provide a few eggs and ambience but as we expand the flock, eggs should become plentiful. Coconut water is harvested and made into nutritious juices, blended with our organic lemons, oranges and lilikoi puree. Our Hana grown bananas, jackfruit, starfruit, and coconut are dehydrated and for sale at the Farmer’s market. Lilikoi butter is another favorite item sold. Hale Pueo is experimenting with a variety of new products as the trees mature and produce their bounty.
Find us at the Hāna Farmers Markets on Fridays!
“Our small homestead produces coconuts, pineapples, starfruit, jackfruit, citrus, banana, ulu, avocado and other nursery plants.
We create a variety of products from these ranging from juices, jams, and dried fruits.”

Hana Gold Plantation was founded in 1978 by Robert and Francine Frost with a commitment to provide people with the finest, naturally grown products. In recent years Hana Gold has begun producing Maui’s first “branch to bar” chocolate. We are joined by our son Aldon and his wife Alyssa in our efforts. The growing of each tree to the pouring of every bar, making a quality 100% Maui grown chocolate has become a family passion. Our commitment to our neighbors and customers is to deliver a superior gourmet chocolate crafted from natural Hawaiian ingredients using only the most environmentally thoughtful methods.
Hana Gold Cacao Plantation rests along the rugged Hana Coast of Maui on the slope of the towering Haleakala Volcano. Cooled by a gentle tropical mist and naturally fertilized by Hawaii’s rich volcanic soil, our trees produce the most flavorful cacao beans in the world. East Maui offers a unique environment for growing cacao that creates a chocolate rich in diverse flavors and subtle undertones. All of our cacao is harvested with care by hand and processed under the watchful eye of our master chocolatier. It is this careful treatment of our beans that gives Hana Gold chocolate its critically acclaimed flavor.
Our cacao is cared for on our plantation with a respect for the land. We grown our trees only with what nature has given, the sun, the soil, the rain. Our chocolate is made using only the finest available Hawaiian ingredients, making Hana Gold one of the few chocolates in the world made from Hawaii’s bounty. Hana Gold’s unblended and entirely Hana grown chocolate is handcrafted using environmentally conscious processes, making it the truest flavor of aloha in a chocolate bar.

Hana Herbs and Flowers Wild Craft Pohole (Maui Fern Shoot) Local and Export – Family Owned & Operated Pohole Farm
We Save Pohole (Maui Fern Shoot) by harvesting from areas where people may bulldoze to build a house or plant flowers, or any other agricultural product. Not changing the land but working with the land. By paying to harvest Pohole it encourages the owner from replacing it. Constantly clearing of vines and other invasive species like African tulips, micronium that threaten the natural habitat of this native plants and indeed it ever existence. We have successfully taken care of our patches that we steward and have help these patches to grow and expand. We believe that by saving this indigenous plant we hope to save a part of Hawaiian culture. One way is saving Pohole is to give it value on an economic scale that encourages all people to want to maintain this amazing plant. Our first step happened in 1988 when Patsy Mink and Senator Dan Akaka helped Pohole receive approval from the FDA. This has made it possible for everyone in Hawaii to legally sell Pohole thus creating a “new” product that could be sold. It can now be found in many restaurants across the islands and in natural food stores, groceries stores and on mainland. We are thankful to everyone who supports our family farm.Accomplishments

Hawaii Farmers Union United – Hana Chapter Contact: Matthew Van PaepeghemMore Information
The Hana Chapter serves farmers in the East Maui communities of Keanae, Hana, Kipahulu and Kaupo. With its remote location, East Maui relies on a self-sufficient agricultural lifestyle, with abundant production of vegetable crops and fruit orchards, as well traditional taro farming, and many tropical flower farms as well. The opportunities and challenges are unique for East Maui farmers, and we welcome everyone to join the chapter to share knowledge and experience, and work together to support the needs of our farmers.
The Hana Chapter is coordinates the Farmers Market in Hana every Friday afternoon in the Hana Town Center.
The Hana Chapter has also taken the lead in rat lungworm disease response in East Maui, including forming the East Maui RLW Task Force and offering farm visits to help growers with slug and rat vector control.

On the rugged Hana coast, along the far eastern shores of the Hawaiian island of Maui, Kahanu Garden grows in splendid isolation, nestled in the one of the largest native hala (Pandanus) forests in the Islands. Plant collections from the Pacific Islands are the focus here, particularly plants of value to the Hawaiian people as well as other cultures of Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia. Kahanu Garden is situated in the storied land of Honoma’ele and home to Pi’ilanihale Heiau, a massive lava-rock structure that is believed to be the largest ancient man made structure in Polynesia. This awe-inspiring cultural site in the garden is registered as a National Historic Landmark.
Visitors to Kahanu Garden will learn about the cultural relationships between people and these remarkable plants that were transported around the Pacific on ancient voyaging canoes. Among the different ethnobotanical collections at Kahanu Garden is the world’s largest collection of breadfruit cultivars, which serves as a germplasm repository for this important South Pacific food crop.
Kahanu Garden and Preserve is part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 that has a mission to enrich life through discovery, scientific research, conservation, and education by perpetuating the survival of plants, ecosystems and cultural knowledge of tropical regions.
