Hawaii Farmers Union United – Hana Chapter Contact: Matthew Van PaepeghemMore Information
The Hana Chapter serves farmers in the East Maui communities of Keanae, Hana, Kipahulu and Kaupo. With its remote location, East Maui relies on a self-sufficient agricultural lifestyle, with abundant production of vegetable crops and fruit orchards, as well traditional taro farming, and many tropical flower farms as well. The opportunities and challenges are unique for East Maui farmers, and we welcome everyone to join the chapter to share knowledge and experience, and work together to support the needs of our farmers.
The Hana Chapter is coordinates the Farmers Market in Hana every Friday afternoon in the Hana Town Center.
The Hana Chapter has also taken the lead in rat lungworm disease response in East Maui, including forming the East Maui RLW Task Force and offering farm visits to help growers with slug and rat vector control.

Heartsmart Healing is committed to helping educators create abundant energy, deep self value, and ways to break free from the burnout cycle.
Teacher Tune-up was designed to help educators make a meaningful impact on their students, gain recognition for their contributions, and achieve a healthy work-life balance. It is a six to eight month mentoring program that provides one-on-one tailored sessions to suit individual needs. While participating in the program, Teacher Tune-up, educators will receive the tools and emotional support to help them not just achieve professional growth but balance and personal satisfaction.
Though the entire education system may be beyond our control, we have the power to evolve ourselves—and by doing so, we become catalysts for change within it.
My Story:
Today, I find myself deeply grateful for the challenging situations and the teaching traumas I’ve encountered over nearly 20 years as a school teacher. These experiences have shaped me into a nationally certified teacher for children with exceptional needs and given me the privilege to teach in schools around the world. I have emerged as an advocate for teachers, successfully negotiating with administrations to introduce vital coaching services for school communities. While I now wake up feeling confident and energized, ready to embrace each day, my journey was not always this way. In my first years of teaching, I suffered from severe anxiety attacks. It led me to seek guidance from a spiritual mentor, recommended by a friend who had also battled anxiety. This turning point changed everything.
Realizing I couldn’t overhaul the educational system, I chose to focus inward, understanding that by nurturing the strongest relationship with myself, I could foster connections with my community. Day by Day and Week by Week, I continued to do the inner work. By doing so I gained tools from my spiritual mentor, online workshops, books on different healing modalities, and research. Gradually, the spiritual work—complemented by a life coaching certification and a commitment to personal growth—eliminated my panic attacks. I learned to transform teaching traumas into opportunities, adopting a growth mindset and breaking free from the negative cycles of burnout and now, I want to share it with other teachers.
By setting mini-goals every two weeks, I cultivated momentum that transformed my teaching journey into one filled with fulfillment and happiness. The techniques I applied with myself became the foundation of a system I developed for teachers, empowering them to transform their lives dramatically through their own small, meaningful steps.

You’ve heard the expression “If these walls could speak”.
Well then, picture this: They do.
Walls, in homes around the the world, declare the beauty and wonder of precious events in time: moments framed in exquisite imagery and portraiture. Passion, tender expressions and the sheer joy of living as portrayed by the images we create reveal our passion and an aggressive eye for “picture perfect” detail. My name is Jerry Grigory, and I live in Hana on the south-western shore of Maui, Hawaii. Hana, (also known as “The Heart of Hawaii”) is a little town nestled into the outskirts of a lush tropical rainforest shadowed by Haleakala, a dormant volcano that pierces the clouds at ten thousand feet. I want to thank you for taking your time to visit our site and looking through our portfolio of imagery.
I have been working as a professional photographer on Maui for forty years. With forty-five years experience, I have been a long standing member of the Professional Photographers of America since 1994, member of the American Society of Photographers since 2012, and a strong supporter of their efforts in continuing photographic education and teaching. I am a PPA accredited Certified Professional Photographer, Certified Master Photographer, Certified Master Craftsmen, have received merited print awards from PPA national print competitions, and repeatedly been received as an award merit print recipient in the prestigious Image of Excellence division of PPA and the Kodak Gallery Award division.

We invite you to come to Hana and enjoy the wonders of Maui
through the heart and lens of Jerry Grigory Photography.

On the rugged Hana coast, along the far eastern shores of the Hawaiian island of Maui, Kahanu Garden grows in splendid isolation, nestled in the one of the largest native hala (Pandanus) forests in the Islands. Plant collections from the Pacific Islands are the focus here, particularly plants of value to the Hawaiian people as well as other cultures of Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia. Kahanu Garden is situated in the storied land of Honoma’ele and home to Pi’ilanihale Heiau, a massive lava-rock structure that is believed to be the largest ancient man made structure in Polynesia. This awe-inspiring cultural site in the garden is registered as a National Historic Landmark.
Visitors to Kahanu Garden will learn about the cultural relationships between people and these remarkable plants that were transported around the Pacific on ancient voyaging canoes. Among the different ethnobotanical collections at Kahanu Garden is the world’s largest collection of breadfruit cultivars, which serves as a germplasm repository for this important South Pacific food crop.
Kahanu Garden and Preserve is part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 that has a mission to enrich life through discovery, scientific research, conservation, and education by perpetuating the survival of plants, ecosystems and cultural knowledge of tropical regions.
