Our hearts and thoughts go out to our friends, families, and all affected by the fires Upcountry and in West Maui!
A message to visitors and guests who already are booked to come to Maui and plan on staying in areas like East Maui, that are not in evacuation zones
We advise that you check with your lodging operators to find out if there are restrictions set at your accommodation. Visitors should be advised that travel to West Maui (the greater area around Lahaina) will not be an option for the time being, and that Hawaiʻi is collectively working to support our affected community members in both West Maui and the Upcountry Maui areas.
Please note that our communities rely on visitors too with lodging operators being some of our largest employers, and we appreciate your understanding of the unique challenge this catastrophe poses and encourage your patronage as guided through our communities.
How you can help
If you would like to support efforts or assist with this emergency, here is a link to the Maui County Emergency Management Website with information where to connect. We will continue to send out periodic updates and links to channels to stay current with the most up-to-date resources as supported through our elected representatives and leadership in this effort.
For families who have lost homes or are otherwise affected by the fires
The State of Hawaiʻi has gotten approval to apply for Fire Management Assistance Grants through FEMA – it is recommended to do this ASAP for a quick turnaround. Learn more and apply at: https://www.fema.gov/assistance/public/fire-management-assistance
