SUMMARY:Resilience Hub Workshop
DESCRIPTION:PRESS RELEASE \nFor Immediate Release \nApril 18\, 2022 \n  \nMaui Residents invited to participate in Resilience Hub talk story sessions \n  \nThe Maui County Office of Climate Change\, Resiliency and Sustainability will hold four community talk story sessions to discuss the formation of Resiliency Hubs in Maui County. \nThe four community events are set for: \n\nLahaina Kaunoa Senior Center at 788 Pauoa St. from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday\, April 20\nVelma McWayne Santos Community Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday\, April 21\nMitchell Pauole Community Center in Kaunakakai from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday\, April 22\nHana Bay Pavilion from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday\, April 25″\n\nResilience Hubs help communities respond to natural and other disasters to expedite emergency recovery\,” said Mayor Michael Victorino. “These hubs work best when they are customized to meet specific community needs. So please participate in the workshop closest to where you live. In this era of climate change and extreme weather\, there’s no such thing as being over-prepared for the unexpected.” \nCommunity input will help determine what services will be offered in Resiliency Hubs\, but they are envisioned as places\, most of the time\, for residents\, businesses and organizations to come together for workshops\, events and training. Hubs would be centers for emergency preparedness\, response and recovery. \nIn the event of a natural disaster\, Resilience Hubs would be emergency response centers to support immediate community needs such as connecting residents and businesses with supplies\, shelter\, information and support. During disaster recovery\, Resilience Hubs would be centers for recovery and ongoing community needs. \nThe talk story sessions are opportunities for the community to learn more about Resilience Hubs\, identify sites for them and determine what programs and services are needed to serve residents’ needs. \nFor more information on the Resilience Hub Network\, visit resilientmauinui.org\, follow us on Facebook or Instagram @countyofmaui\, or reach out to CCRS.office@mauicounty.gov\, (808) 270-7855.# # # \n
